The Trigg County baseball team may have spent more time on the bus than on the field on Saturday after needing only two innings to top hosts Dawson Springs 24-0.

Lance Breckel enjoyed a big game at the plate and on the mound, driving in four runs and pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Breckel’s first-inning single drove in a run to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead ahead of a two-run single by Bentley Reynolds.  Chase Hampton delivered a bases-loaded triple, and Breckel capped an 11-run inning with another RBI single.

It was more of the same in the second for the Wildcats, with RBI singles by Brody Calhoun and Grayson McKee and run-scoring doubles by Breckel and Kahmani Bush tacking on 13 more runs.

Breckel led the way with three hits, and Slaton Carter finished 2/2 at the plate for the Wildcats.  Hampton and Jon Humphries each drove in three runs, and Bentley Reynolds, Bush, and McKee each added two RBI.

Kolby Crook took the loss for Dawson Springs, allowing 17 runs, 15 earned, on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts.  The Panthers slipped to 0-1 with a 7th-District matchup with Madisonville-North Hopkins scheduled for Monday.

Trigg bounced back from its first loss of the season to improve to 2-1.  The Wildcats will also open the week with a district contest when Crittenden County comes to Cadiz on Monday.
