Nine of the ten Northeast High School batters that came to the plate Tuesday accounted for at least one run batted in and the host Eagles defeated University Heights Academy 17-1 in a softball matchup in Clarksville, Tennessee.

After the Blazers failed to score despite loading the bases in the first inning, Northeast answered in a big way with nine runs in the bottom half and eight more in the second inning. The game ended in the bottom of the third as a result of the mercy rule.

Senior Krista Keller drew a bases-loaded walk — one of six free passes drawn by UHA in the contest — to get Heights within 9-1 in the second inning, but that’s as close as the Blazers would get. They finished with seven players left on base.

The Eagles (2-3) scored 17 runs off just five hits. The rest of the damage came via 12 drawn walks and eight players who were hit by a pitch. Katherine Wood started the game for University Heights and allowed eight runs.

Offensively, UHA was led by Keller (1-for-1, walk, RBI), Wood (0-for-2, two walks) and JReanna McKnight (0-for-0, walk, run). Alison Rasin paced the Eagles with four RBIs. Katelynn Griffy went 1-for-1 with three walks, three runs scored and a walk.

UHA (1-1) plays the second of three straight road games Thursday in an 8th District showdown with Heritage Christian Academy. The Blazers then travel to Hopkinsville on March 26.
