Caldwell County continues to have Hopkins County Central’s number on the baseball diamond.

An eight-run seventh inning on Thursday helped the Tigers finish off a 13-0 win over the Storm in Mortons Gap.

Cole Slone struck out 10 and surrendered just two base hits in six strong innings of work on the mound.

Mitchell Phelps pitched the bottom of the seventh inning, allowing just one walk while fanning two.

Caldwell is not only 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the district this season, but has won 18 straight over Hopkins Central going back to the 2016 season.

The Tigers have taken 30 of their last 31 matchups with the Storm.

Over the past two seasons, Caldwell is 5-0 in the series while outscoring Hopkins Central 59-0 in those games.

But the Storm (2-3, 0-2) tried to keep things close early in the latest get-together.

Caldwell put up two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 4-0. A single run in the fifth made it 5-0.

The Tigers used eight base hits and eight walks to score their 13 runs. Hopkins Central also made six errors.

David Ginn was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Caldwell. Carter Whittington went 2-for-5 while Ari Wells had a triple and Westin King doubled.

Caldwell will take its five-game winning streak to Webster County on Friday. The Trojans are off to a 3-1 start this season.
