Caldwell’s Girls Split Games with Trigg, Graves

Caldwell County’s girls split two games in the Prickly Peach Invitational at Trigg County on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers defeated the host Lady Wildcats 9-5 in their opener, running their winning streak to three games.

A five-run seventh inning was the difference for Caldwell after Trigg had tied the game at 4-4 with a four-run sixth.

Brylee Butts singled home a run to put Caldwell up 5-4. Harper Holeman drove in another run with a single, then an Adley Lewis groundout plated another to make it 7-4. Grace Watson capped the inning with a two-run double to right to give the Lady Tigers a five-run cushion.

Alicia Stanley had a two-run home run to center as part of a three-run third inning.

Caldwell added another run in the top of the sixth and looked to be in control with a 4-0 lead.

But Trigg (5-4) rallied with a four-run sixth. Kiley Slone drove in two runs with a double as the big hit of the inning. MaKenna Hendricks tied the game with an RBI double.

For Caldwell, Stanley went 2-for-3 with the homer, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Holeman was 2-for-4 and knocked in two while Butts was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Watson was 1-for-3 and drove in three.

Alexis Wood allowed six base hits to pick up the pitching win for Caldwell. All five of Trigg’s runs were unearned. Wood struck out one and walked one.

In Caldwell’s second game of the day, the Lady Tigers cut an 8-1 deficit to 8-7 but suffered a 9-7 setback to Graves County at the Trigg Recreation Complex.

Lewis was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Stanley also went 3-for-4. Butts hit her third home run in two days, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Holeman also homered, finishing 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.

Holeman had a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning as Caldwell crept within 8-7. Butts had a solo homer in the third.

Daelen Kizzee went 2-for-3 as the Lady Tigers outhit the Lady Eagles 13-7.

However, Caldwell was hampered by seven errors. Just two of Graves’ nine runs were earned.

The Lady Eagles scored twice in the first, four runs in the second and single tallies in the third and fourth innings to build their 8-1 lead.

The Lady Tigers are now 4-3 heading into Monday’s home date against Murray (3-5).
