Despite scoring a season-high five runs in Saturday’s matchup with Bowling Green, the Hopkinsville softball team wound up on the wrong end of an 18-5 score in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Lady Tigers pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Jesslyn Trejo and a run-scoring double by Elizabeth Smith, and added three runs on an RBI double by Abigail Straight and Trinity Shumate’s single that drove in a run.

However, Bowling Green outhit the Lady Tigers 18-5 on the way to a season-high run output, beginning with a nine-run first inning highlighted by an RBI double by JaNya Perkins and Natalie Klein’s triple.

Lola Kington drove in a run with a triple in the second inning, and the Purples pushed seven more runs across in the third.  Kathlyn Yarbrough delivered a bases-loaded double, and Harper Farris and Rheagan Gathright added RBI singles to round out the scoring.

Yarbrough earned the win in the circle after allowing five earned runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.  Yarbrough also drove in three runs, and Keyara Hudson, Hadley Morrison, Kington, and Gathright each hit safely twice.
