A five-run first inning started Caldwell County’s girls off on the right foot Monday, as the Lady Tigers picked up an 8-1 victory over Murray in Princeton.
Jackie Farmer allowed just one run on seven base hits to pitch Caldwell to the win. She struck out three and walked none.
Meanwhile, Brylee Butts was 3-for-3 with a home run and a pair of runs batted in to lead the Lady Tigers at the plate.
Caldwell, now 5-3, did all of its damage in the first inning without recording a base hit. Instead, two walks, a hit batter and three errors helped the Lady Tigers dent home plate five times.
Maci Tyler picked up an RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Daelen Kizzee drove in a run with a groundout to second. Carlee Palm had a sacrifice fly to center in the frame.
Caldwell added another run in the second when Tink Clark doubled, took third on an error and scored on a bunt single by Butts. That made it 6-0.
Murray (3-6) got its only run in the top of the fourth inning.
But Caldwell countered in the bottom of the inning when Butts homered to right-center.
The final run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth. Butts singled with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double into the right-field corner by Harper Holeman.
Holeman finished 2-for-4 for Caldwell. Alicia Stanley was 1-for-3 with a triple.
Derryanna Hudspeth was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Murray. Kylie Chapman and Mylee Smith were each 2-for-3 as well.
Chapman was the losing pitcher, but struck out 10 while allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
Both teams battled windy conditions throughout the contest and also played through some rain the final few innings.
Caldwell’s girls will go on the road Tuesday to play at Ohio County. The Lady Tigers then host Dawson Springs for a 7th District varsity doubleheader on Thursday.
