Visiting Russellville scored five times in the first inning, pounded out 16 hits in the game, and captured its fifth straight win overall Tuesday with a 12-4 softball victory over Todd County Central High School in Elkton.
The Panthers, who have reached double digits in runs scored during three of their past five decisions, also got a six-inning effort from starting pitcher Chloe Penrod and took advantage of six Rebel errors. By the time Todd Central scored its first run, which came on Jocelyn Mock’s RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, TCCHS already found itself in a 7-1 hole.
Abby Williams and Naomi Welborn delivered RBI doubles of their own in the sixth inning, pulling their squad within 11-3 and attempting to spark a big-time rally, but that’s as close as the Rebels would get in the home loss. Welborn finished 2-for-4 with a team-best two RBIs and was one of four Todd players to hit a double. Naomi Gammon (1-for-3, run, walk) had the other.
Mock (2-1) took her first loss of the season, allowing 13 hits, seven runs (five earned) and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. Abby Craig threw just a third of an inning but was touched up for three hits, five runs and two walks. Their counterpart, Penrod (4-1), walked three, gave up five hits and allowed four runs, but secured her fourth victory in the circle in 2024.
The Panthers (6-1) also got a big offensive performance from senior Akiah Bell, who went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, four runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Five different Russellville players recorded multi-hit games.
Todd County Central (4-3), which had captured four victories in its last five games prior to Monday’s defeat, will have a couple days off before taking on Monroe County in the All “A” Classic 4th Region Tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday.
