Fielding miscues and struggles in the circle were a bit too much for the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers to overcome Thursday evening in their 8th District contest against the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons. Fort Campbell took advantage of 8 Lady Blazer errors and 26 free passes to break open an 8-8 tie and pull away to a 19-10 win.
The victory moved Fort Campbell to 3-0 in 8th District play and should set them up to be at least the #2 seed come 8th District tournament time at the end of the regular season.
The game was tied at 8-8 after three innings. Fort Campbell then scored five times in the fifth, three times in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to break the game open and take the nine-run win.
The Lady Falcons scored their 19 runs on just three hits. Amar’e Moore, Hailey Herron, and Emma Kolmerton had one hit each for Fort Campbell. Moore, along with Tristin Caldwell and Brooke Thorsen, drove in two runs each.
Chayse Gilliland had a big game for the Lady Blazers, going 3-4 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Madison Williams finished 2-2 with a run scored.
Fort Campbell 7th grader Amar’e Moore picked up the win in the circle, going seven innings, giving up 10 runs, eight of them earned, striking out 14 and walking five.
