Blazers Rebound with 6-2 Friday Road Win at Madisonville

The University Heights Academy Blazers rebounded from a tough Wednesday loss at St. Mary by going back on the road Friday and taking a 6-2 2nd Region road win at Madisonville-North Hopkins. The win was the 6th in the last 7 games for the Blazers.

The Maroons took the early 1-0 lead with a bases-loaded walk to Xzavier Martin in the bottom of the second.

The Blazers took the lead for good in the top of the third. Hayden Hunt led off the inning with a double and then scored on a single from Cadence Gibson to even things up at 1-1. Ryan Luckey would later score on a fielder’s choice and Cadence Gibson scored when Jaiden Miles was caught stealing to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead.

Xzavier Martin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Maroons to within one at 3-2.

UHA then sealed the win with three runs in the top of the seventh when Cadence Gibson delivered a bases-loaded triple to push the Blazer lead to 6-2.

Bryson Turner came in to close out the game on the mound for UHA in the bottom of the 7th. After giving up a walk and a single to start the inning, Turner sat down the next three Maroons in order to close out the game.

The top of the order was devastating for the Blazers. Hayden Hunt ended up 4-4 with a double and two runs scored. Ryan Luckey ended up 2-4 with two runs scored. Cadence Gibson was 3-4 with a triple and four runs batted in.

Gibson also got the win on the mound, going six innings, giving up one run on one hit, striking out four while walking four.

Three Blazer pitchers combined to give up just three hits and strike out 11.
