Just as they did in victories over Livingston Central and Crittenden County in their last two outings, the Lyon County Lyons baseball team required only five innings to dispatch visiting Trigg County 12-1 on Saturday and run their 5th-District mark to a perfect 3-0.

Brady Belt was in control on the mound for the Lyons, with Haydon Reynolds’ single in the top of the fourth the lone hit for the Wildcats.  Belt earned his second win of the season, striking out nine and not issuing a walk over five innings.  Two errors on either side of Reynolds’ single and a hit by pitch provided Trigg County’s only run.

The Lyons started quickly against Trigg starting pitcher Aidon Butts, putting runners on second and third ahead of a two-run single by Austin Spears.  Korben Lucas followed with an RBI single, and Peyton Williams drove in a run to cap a four-run first.

Lucas added to his RBI haul with a two-run double in the Lyons’ second at-bat, and John Bingham drove in two with a double to make it 8-0 after three frames.

Four runs in the bottom of the fourth rounded out the scoring for Lyon County.  A walk and two hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded brought in three, and Bingham flew out to center field to add the final run.

Lucas was 2/2 with three RBI, and Bingham drove in three.  Spears finished with a pair of runs driven in, and Baker, Belt, Williams, and Drew Ritchie each had an RBI.

Butts took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits with no walks or strikeouts.  Braydon Jones surrendered four earned runs on a pair of hits, three walks, and two strikeouts, and Grayson McKee gave up two earned runs with a walk and a strikeout in one inning of work.

Trigg County slipped to 4-5 with its third loss in a row.  The Wildcats will be back on the road on Thursday for a matchup with Ballard Memorial.

Lyon County won its fifth straight to move to 5-4 with a meeting with Whitley County on Monday.
