Hopkinsville Rolls Past Todd Central to Close Out Florida Trip

Two schools separated by just 23 miles got together on the baseball field more than 500 miles from home Friday morning. In a breakfast-time matchup, the Hopkinsville Tigers got their bats going early and rolled to a 15-0 4-inning win over the Todd County Central Rebels.

Hopkinsville pitchers Lucas Kaetzel and Joshua Embry II combined to pitch a two-hit shutout over the four innings of play. Kaetzel went two innings, giving up one hit and striking out four. Embrey also went two innings. He gave up one hit, striking out five and walking two.

The Tigers scored in each of their four turns at the plate with four runs in the first, six in the second, four more in the third, and then closed out the game with a run in the bottom of the 4th inning.

J.J. Thompson had another big day at the plate. He went 2-2 with a double and his second home run in just over 12 hours. Lucas Kaetzel finished 1-2 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Freshman Gavin Mitchell was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored.

Peyton Ortiz and Jacob Slaughter had the hits for the Todd County Central Rebels, who played a younger lineup in the game.

Hopkinsville finishes Spring Break in Florida with a 5-0 record and gets ready to host Paducah Tilghman Tuesday night.

Todd County Central goes 0-3 on the trip south. The Rebels go on the road Tuesday to take on Tennessee Heat.
