
A tough loss Friday for the Trigg County Lady Wildcats to end their trip to Florida. South Oldham scored on a fielder’s choice with one out in the bottom of the 8th to walk off a 5-4 win over the Lady Wildcats in the Florida Softball Beach Bash.
With a runner placed on 2nd base to start the bottom of the 8th inning, South Oldham sacrificed to move the runner to third base. Pinch-hitter Lauren Young then hit a ground ball to second and the runner was able to score from third to end the game.
Trigg County had a chance to do some damage of its own in the top half of the final inning. Brynlee Smock was placed on second base to start the inning. Kiley Slone singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. After Slone stole second, Lily Eagleson grounded out but the Lady Wildcats were unable to advance the runners.
Jayden Visingardi followed that up with a walk to load the bases for Trigg County. The threat ended when EmmaLee Futrell lined into a double play at first, setting up the winning chance for the Lady Dragons.
Trigg County led for most of the game. Kady Fuller singled in a run in the top of the first to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead. EmmaLee Futrell came up with an RBI single in the top of the 2nd to extend the lead to 2-0.
After Kady Fuller tripled to lead off the top of the 4th, Brynlee Smock singled to make it a 3-0 Trigg County lead.
South Oldham rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the fifth to give the Lady Dragons a 4-3 lead.
Trigg County would tie the game on four walks in the top of the sixth, setting up the late-game dramatics.
The Lady Wildcats finished the day with nine hits. Kiley Slone was 2-3 with a pair of runs scored. Kady Fuller finished 2-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.
Tember Oliver went the distance for the Lady Wildcats, giving up 11 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2.
