Christian County put the brakes on a season-long eight-game skid and beat Montgomery Central, Tennessee 7-5 on Friday.

The seven runs scored by the Colonels were the most since a 15-0 shutout of Fort Campbell on March 19.

The Colonels scored three times in the sixth inning to grab the lead from the home-standing Indians. Edward Davis led off the inning with a double and Jonathan Lewis followed with a walk. Carter Sholar cranked a double to center to give the Colonels a 6-5 lead. A balk allowed Sholar to score the insurance run.

Meanwhile, Gage Montes went the distance for the Colonels, striking out 11 and scattering eight hits in picking up his first win of the season. He also collected two hits at the plate to up his season average to .404.

Other Colonels with two hits were Sholar and Sebastian Dazey.

Christian County (5-11) has a Saturday game with another Tennessee school – Hendersonville – before a Tuesday home game with Madisonville. On Friday, Christian County will travel across North Drive to play University Heights in a district showdown.
