Caldwell County held University Heights Academy to one hit and defeated the Blazers 6-1 to move into the semifinals of the All A Classic Second Region Tournament.

Ari Wells spun six innings, allowing just a second-inning single to Hayden Hunt. That hit plated UHA’s only run. Jaiden Miles walked and advanced to third but was out advancing to home on a fielder’s choice. Eli Finch also walked and scored on Hunt’s single.

By that time, Caldwell County had already put five runs on the board. Channing Puckett followed a run-scoring balk with a double to right field for a 2-0 first-inning lead.

The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the second inning on a Luke Parker sacrifice fly and a two-run single by Cole Slone.

Puckett drove in his second run with a sixth-inning single. He had three of Caldwell’s nine hits while Slone and Parker each had a pair of hits.

Wells went the first six innings to improve to 3-2 and lowered his season ERA to 2.02. He struck out seven and walked five.

UHA’s bullpen pitched well after the early surge by Caldwell. Jackson Flynn pitched four innings and allowed just one run while striking out six. Bryson Turner allowed two hits over the final two innings and didn’t allow an earned run.

UHA (9-5) will host Christian County on Friday.

Caldwell County (13-3) will play Lyon County in Tuesday’s semifinal in Eddyville. The Lyons beat Heritage Christian Academy 24-0 in three innings for their seventh straight win after an 0-4 start.

Fort Campbell beat Dawson Springs 15-0 in the upper bracket quarterfinal, while Crittenden County beat Livingston Central 7-4 in the other quarterfinal.
