The Lyon County High School softball squad is seeking its second All “A” regional title in the past three seasons in 2024. It took a big step toward that goal Monday by dispatching Dawson Springs 15-0 in three innings.

Destiny Cayce (2-0) and Lilly Perry took care of business in the circle. Cayce (five) and Perry (two) combined for seven strikeouts and a perfect game in the run-shortened affair. In her one inning of relief, eight of Perry’s 12 pitches were strikes. The duo combined for just eight pitches called out of the zone.

Offensively, the Lyons were led emphatically by Piper Cotham. The LCHS freshman finished 2-for-4 with team leads in runs scored (three) and RBI (three) during the dominant performance. Perry (2-for-2, run, two RBIs) and Lauren Davis (3-for-3, two runs, RBI) also turned in big performances.

Lyon County was held to just one run in the first inning, which came on a Jenna Coursey RBI single, but then exploded for a dozen runs in the second inning to assume complete advantage. Overall, the Lyons pounded 10 hits and drew seven walks off Dawson Springs pitcher Graclyn Haynes.

In the final inning, after LCHS loaded the bases to start the frame, Cotham ended the game via mercy rule with a two-run single that plated Addie Guess and Brenna Breitrick for the walk-off victory. Eleven different Lyons crossed home plate to help the team advance to the next round.

Dawson Springs, which has now suffered 11 straight losses to begin the year, sent nine players to the plate in the All “A” 2nd Region first-round matchup. Of those, seven were fanned. It’s the sixth straight game the Panthers have been blanked and ninth overall this season.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast, there is uncertainty surrounding the next matchups in the All “A” regional tournament. On the current regular season schedule, Lyon County (6-5) is slated to play again April 11 at Union County.
