One player cannot rebuild a basketball program but getting All-American point guard Georgia Amoore on the Kentucky roster certainly is a terrific start for new coach Kenny Brooks.

Moore was a three-year, all-ACC performer at Virginia Tech for Brooks and the 2023 NCAA Tournament West Region MVP when the Hokies reached the Final Four. She put her name into the transfer portal after Brooks took the UK job and last week confirmed she was coming to Kentucky.

Kentucky confirmed the addition of the graduate transfer on Monday.

“I am elated to add Georgia to our roster at Kentucky,” Brooks said in a release from UK. “Her work ethic and accomplishments add credibility as we try to build Kentucky into a contender. Our experiences together will help to make a smoother transition and I can’t wait for BBN to experience her passion for the game!”

The 5-6 guard from Australia was one of the top players already in the transfer portal. She averaged 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per game last season and ranked first in the ACC and fourth nationally in assists per game. She ranked 41st nationally in scoring.

Brooks’ systems needs consistent outside shotmakers and Amoore made 85 3-pointers — fourth most in a single season at Virginia Tech. She scored 20 or more points 16 times and had two 30-point games. She also had nine double-double games (points and assists).

Her playmaking and understanding of Brooks’ offense will be invaluable next season. She has played four years already and had 656 assists — No. 1 all-time at Tech. She made 330 3-pointers and scored 1,853 points.

Amoore is also durable and not foul prone as she averaged 34.3 minutes per game which could be huge on a roster that likely will not be loaded with overall depth.

  1. Wow, can’t wait for the season to begin. If i lived in Lexington, i would buy season tickets. Very exciting to have a competitive team in the SEC.

  2. It was easy to drop off the Elzy train bc of lack of production. Do you think it was bc she tried to adapt to Cali-Fraudi’s skill set of " coaching underperformance and lack of player development"? I do plan to follow WB much more closely this year as it looks like Brooks home run hire. Were Dawn Staley’s tears real? Was she really blindsided by Trans? Are we sure that Cardoza not Trans?
