Christian County’s Derrell Bateman is heading off to ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas’ to continue his athletic and educational career. In a social media post Friday afternoon, the Christian County senior announced he had signed with Trinity Valley Community College, in Athens, Texas, just southeast of Dallas.
Bateman had a big senior season for the Colonels, averaging 23.2 points and 12.5 rebounds a game. He helped to lead Christian County to the 2nd Region tournament where they fell to eventual state champion Lyon County. Bateman scored a career-high 51 points in a game at Marshall County in December and finished his Colonel career with 1,765 points and 1,071 rebounds.
It was recently announced that Bateman had been selected to be on the final roster for the Kentucky team in the Ohio-Kentucky All-Star game. Bateman was also a member of the Kentucky Junior All-Star Team that played Indiana in a pair of games last year.
Trinity Valley finished the 2023-2024 season at 27-8. The Cardinals fell to Triton College in the second round of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
