The Christian County Lady Colonels have hit a bit of a mid-season rut. Franklin-Simpson got back-to-back home runs in the top of the 5th inning as the Lady Wildcats came from behind to take a 7-5 win Friday night on the Lady Colonels’ home field.
Christian County entered the top of the 5th holding a 4-2 lead. Kloie Smith hit a three-run homer with one out, followed by Zori Stout blasting a solo shot to centerfield, putting Frankin-Simpson up 6-4.
The Lady Colonels got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Chloe Almy drove in Alyssa Petterson with a ground out to cut the lead to 6-5.
A Lady Colonel error in the top of the sixth allowed the Lady Wildcats to add an insurance run. From there, Franklin-Simpson pitcher Allie Utley shut down the Christian County bats over the final two innings to secure the win.
Jordan Turner led the Lady Colonels at the plate, going 3-4. Avery Adock finished 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Chloe Almy was 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Turner went 6 2/3 innings in the circle. She gave up three runs, none of them earned, on five hits, striking out 9 and walking one.
Fielding miscues were a very costly problem for the Lady Colonels. Christian County was charged with 5 errors, which allowed Franklin-Simpson to score three unearned runs, which would turn out to be the difference in the game.
The loss, which was the Lady Colonels’ fourth in their last five games, drops Christian County to 7-5 on the season.
