Looking for their second win in as many days after topping UHA in an 8th-District showdown on Friday, the Christian County Colonels saw Jacob Jenkins’ first career home run go to waste after visiting Owensboro pushed a pair of runs across in the top of the seventh to pull out a 7-5 decision.

Christian County starting pitcher Gage Montes worked out of a little first-inning trouble and the Colonels rewarded him with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.  They loaded the bases on a walk, a hit by pitch, and a single by Montes before a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Blake Boehman put them in front.

However, Owensboro used a run each in the second and third innings to tie the game and surged in front with three runs in the top of the fifth.  Two Colonel errors, a walk, and a catcher’s interference did most of the damage ahead of a two-run single by Brady Benjamin to make it 5-2.

With the Colonels trailing by two in the bottom of the sixth, Boehman led off the inning with a double ahead of Jenkins’ two-run shot over the left-field fence to tie the game.  But the Red Devils answered with a long ball of their own when Evan Hampton led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to center, and the final run came across on Benjamin’s single for his third RBI of the game.

Will Rickard came on in relief to earn the win for the Red Devils, allowing a pair of earned runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.  Lake Wilson worked the first five innings on the mound, surrendering a pair of earned runs on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Montes took the loss, giving up seven runs, only three earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks.  Boehman finished with two hits, Jenkins drove in two runs, and Preston Phan and Sebastian Dazey each added an RBI.

The Colonels slipped to 6-13 with a trip to Trigg County coming up on Monday.  Christian County has won the last five in the series with the Wildcats.
