The Trigg County boys basketball team put the wraps on its 2023-24 season with its annual postseason awards banquet.
The Wildcats were 12-20 and finished as district runner-up, which meant a trip to the region tournament for the second consecutive season.
Mason Burgett was on hand to give out the varsity awards, one of his last official acts as Trigg County head coach. Burgett announced last month he was taking the head coaching job at Hopkins County Central.
Although not in attendance at the banquet, senior Jhaden Vaughn was named the team MVP for the season. Vaughn finished his Trigg County career with 1,736 points and 1,174 rebounds. He finishes sixth on the school’s all-time scoring list behind only Deonquez Nance (1,989), Lemar Northington (1,931), Jeremy Jones (1,909), Jonathon King (1,854), and Chris Sparks (1,821).
Vaughn is the first Trigg player to finish with 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career.
He set a school record for 132 games played at the varsity level.
Landon Stewart, who recovered from a pair of knee surgeries in his varsity career, received the Resilience Award.
Luke Terrell received the Wildcat Award.
Jerimyah Shearer and Kahmani Bush both received the Redemption Award.
Peyton Moore received the Sacrifice Award.
Letter winners for the team were Vaughn, Bush, Shearer, Stewart, Terrell, Moore, Lance Breckel, Joshuan Bridges, and Slaton Carter.
Justin Carter was also recognized for his work in keeping the stat book and his work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.
