The Caldwell County Lady Tigers used a big third inning to put an end to their four-game losing streak Tuesday evening. The Lady Tigers put six on the board as they came from behind to take a 10-3 win over the Lyon County Lady Lyons at Lee S. Jones Park.
Courtney Collins hit a rocket shot to center and the Lady Lyons used a Caldwell County error to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The score was still 2-0 when the Lady Tigers dropped the hammer on the Lady Lyons in the top of the third. The first seven Caldwell County batters of the inning all reached base safely as the Lady Tigers took a 6-2 lead. The big hits in the inning were a bases-clearing double from Alicia Stanley and a two-run homer from Adley Lewis.
Collins singled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. She stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and then scored on another ground out to cut the lead to 6-3. But Caldwell County pitcher Alexis Wood closed the door on the inning and the rest of the game.
The Lady Tigers added two insurance runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth to secure the win.
Brylee Butts has a big day for Caldwell County, going 4-4 with 3 doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Adley Lewis finished 3-5 with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Alexis Wood and Grace Watson had a pair of hits each.
Courtney Collins paced the Lyon County offense, going 2-3 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Lilly Perry and Gracen Wynn had the other hits for the Lady Lyons, who were limited to just four in the game by Alexis Wood.
Wood went the distance in the circle for the Lady Tigers, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on four hits, striking out 7 and walking two.
Lilly Perry and Destiny Cayce spent time in the circle for the Lady Lyons. The pair gave up 10 runs, 9 of them earned, on 14 hits. Perry had six strikeouts while Cayce had three.
