The streaking Hopkinsville baseball team won for the seventh straight time and opened district play on Monday with a 15-0 four-inning victory over visiting Fort Campbell.  Gavin Mitchell led the Tigers at the plate with five RBI and Andrew Mayes earned his third win on the mound.

Zach Moss got the Tigers started with an RBI single and Layton Lindsey capped a six-run first with a single to drive in Mayes.

Mayes struck out five of the first six batters he faced before the Falcons reached on an error to start the top of the third.  Colton Ramos followed with a single and Fort Campbell loaded the bases with a walk, but Mayes struck out two and picked off a runner at first to end the threat.

Mitchell’s two-run double highlighted a three-run third and Hopkinsville stretched the advantage to 10-0.  JJ Thompson got in on the act with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, and Mitchell capped his night with a single to drive in the winning run.

Mitchell and Thompson both collected two hits for the Tigers, Lindsey drove in two, and Thompson, Moss, Gavin Powell, and Griffen Meacham each had an RBI.  Mayes struck out eight with two hits and a walk over four frames.

Michael Anderson took the loss on the mound for the Falcons, allowing seven runs, only three earned, on four hits with a strikeout and four walks.  Thomas Roach came on in relief and worked the final one and one-third, surrendering six earned runs on four hits with five walks.

The Falcons haven’t beaten the Tigers since 2012, a span of 25 games.
