After years of torturing Trigg County basketball as a player in a Caldwell County uniform, Michael Fraliex will now take over the helm of the Wildcat basketball program.

Trigg County High School Athletic Director Doug Gloyd confirmed Fraliex was named the school’s 19th boys basketball coach on Friday. The move turns out to be a coaching trade of sorts as Fraliex replaces Mason Burgett, who took the Hopkins County Central head coaching job when Fraliex stepped down last month.

In five seasons with the Storm, Fraliex compiled a 51-79 record.

Fraliex is a former player and head coach at Caldwell County where he scored 2,896 points in a Caldwell uniform from 1987-92. During that time, Caldwell County was 9-2 against Trigg County, a 5th District rival at the time.

Fraliex had a standout college career at Western Kentucky University, scoring 1,205 points and ending his playing days atop the career lists for 3-pointers made and 3-pointers attempted as a Hilltopper.

Following a stint as an assistant coach on the boys’ team at Lyon County, Fraliex first became a head coach when he took over the girls’ program at Lyon for the 2000-01 season, leading the team to regional berths in 2002 and 2004.

Fraliex returned to Caldwell County as head coach for the 2004-05 season and coached the Tigers for five seasons. His best year was in 2007 when he guided Caldwell to a 23-4 record, a 7th District championship, and a berth in the 2nd Region semifinals. Fraliex was named the 2nd Region Coach of the Year that season.

Fraliex was 69-51 as head coach at Caldwell County.

At Trigg County, Fraliex inherits a Trigg County program that hasn’t had a winning record since 2016, also the last time the Wildcats won a district title.

Trigg County was 12-20 for Burgett last year and advanced to the region tournament for the second straight season. Trigg graduated six seniors from last year’s team, including 1,500-point scorer and 1,000-rebounder Jhaden Vaughn.

Gloyd said Fraliex will be introduced as head coach on Tuesday at 3:30 at Wildcat Gym.
