Lyon County extended its winning streak on the strength of 15 hits on Saturday, seven for extra bases, to dispatch hosts Christian County 15-5 in six innings. The Lyons haven’t lost in a month to improve to 12-4 ahead of a trip to Livingston Central on Monday.
Korben Lucas led the Lyons with four RBI, beginning with a two-run single in a four-run first inning. However, a Lyon error allowed a pair of Colonel runs in the bottom of the frame, and Jacob Jenkins followed with a double to drive in two and tie the game.
A pair of Lyon pitchers kept the Colonels at bay for the rest of the way, with a run on another Lyon County error in the bottom of the fourth the only other time they crossed the plate. Christian County threatened in the third with the bases loaded and Aiden Lewis at the plate, but Lyon catcher Peyton Williams picked the runner off second to end the inning.
The Lyons scored in every inning but one, including an RBI double by John Bingham to break a 4-4 tie in the second. Eli Baker drove in a run with a third-inning double, and Brady Belt followed with a two-run double to open up a five-run margin.
Leading 10-5, the Lyons added the finishing touch with five runs in the top of the sixth. Bingham drove in two runs with a single ahead of an Austin Spears RBI double. Lucas capped his big day at the plate with a two-run home run to left field, and Hudson Phillips pitched around a pair of singles in the bottom of the inning to close out a three-inning relief appearance.
Spears got the win on the mound, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout over three frames. Phillips was dinged for an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout.
Lewis took the loss for the Colonels, lasting two innings and giving up eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout. Eddie Davis came on for three innings, surrendering two earned runs on two hits with five walks and four strikeouts, and Sebastian Dazey gave up five earned runs on six hits in an inning of work.
Baker finished 4/5 with three doubles, Bingham had two hits and drove in three, Belt hit safely twice with a pair of RBI, and Lucas added two hits.
Boehman and Jenkins each drove in two runs for the Colonels, and Lewis and Carter Sholar finished with two hits.
Christian County slipped to 7-16 and will travel to Bullitt East on Monday.
