Trigg County’s Tember Oliver allowed three runs and scattered five hits over six innings against hosts Christian County on Monday, but was upstaged in the circle by Jordan Turner in a 3-1 Lady Colonels’ victory.
The Lady Colonels won for the fourth time in five outings to improve to 11-9 ahead of a visit from Henderson County on Tuesday. Christian County has dropped the last five in the series with the three-time defending 2nd-Region champions.
After three scoreless innings, Avery Adcock led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and came home on a Chloe Almy single ahead of a second run on a Trigg County error. Another error put runners on first and third with no outs, but the Lady Wildcats cut down a runner at home, and Oliver struck out a pair to end the inning.
Adcock’s solo home run made it 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth before Trigg answered on Kady Fuller’s RBI single in the top of the sixth.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, MaKenna Hendricks singled, and a walk put runners at the corners, but a ground out ended Trigg’s chances to tie the game.
Oliver took the loss as the Lady Wildcats slipped to 11-11, finishing with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks. Rylee Hendricks and Oliver led the way for Trigg County with two hits each.
Turner allowed an unearned run on four hits with nine strikeouts over six innings to earn her sixth win of the season. Katie Smith worked a scoreless seventh, giving up a pair of hits with a walk.
Adcock and Haley Petterson each had two hits for the Lady Colonels, and Adcock and Almy drove in runs.
Trigg County heads to Caldwell County on Tuesday looking to put an end to a seven-game losing streak in the series.
