Searching for their first 13th-District victory on Wednesday against red-hot Logan County, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels kept things close early before a pair of late-inning home runs sent the Lady Cougars to a comfortable 10-2 win in Elkton.

Logan County won its 12th game in a row dating back to the opening matchup off a Spring Break trip to Florida.  The Lady Cougars improved to 4-0 in district play with their 20th victory of the season.

After a pair of RBI singles put Logan County in front in the top of the first, Naomi Welborn connected for the Lady Rebels’ third home run in 24 hours to cut the lead in half.

A Lady Rebel error and Emerson McKinnis’ RBI single made it 4-1 in the top of the second before Todd Central got a run back when Jocelyn Mock grounded out to bring a runner home in the Lady Rebel half of the third.

However, Logan County’s Shayla Johnson shut the Lady Rebels out the rest of the way, earning her 11th victory of the season after allowing a single earned run on five hits with 13 strikeouts over seven frames.

Leading 6-2 in the fifth, Johnson helped herself with a home run to left field, and Nora Epley’s three-run shot in the seventh put the finishing touches on the Lady Cougars third-straight win in the series.

Todd Central slipped to 8-11, 0-4 in district play, ahead of a trip to face Hopkinsville on Monday.  The Lady Rebels have won the last nine in the series with the Lady Tigers.

Mock took the loss in the circle, working the first two innings and returning for the seventh.  She allowed seven runs, five earned, on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout.  Addison Woodall worked the four frames in between, surrendering three earned runs on six hits with a walk.

Epley finished 3/5 with three RBI for the Lady Cougars, followed by Hailey Burgess, Trinity Case, Sydni Blick, and Johnson with two hits each.
