
MaKenna Hendricks drove in four runs and the Trigg County Lady Wildcats held off Lyon County’s seventh-inning rally to prevail 10-6 on Thursday in Eddyville, extending their perfect start against 5th-District competition.
The Lady Wildcats won for the third time in four outings on the way to a season sweep of the Lady Lyons. Lyons County has won once in its last four games to slip to 9-11 ahead of a trip to Calloway County on Friday.
Lyon County took advantage of a Trigg error to take the lead in the bottom of the first, with Lilly Perry singling to push a run across.
The Lady Wildcats responded with a four-run second, leading off the inning with a pair of singles. With two outs and runners on first and second, Rylee Hendricks reached on an error to bring in a run ahead of a three-run home run to left field by MaKenna Hendricks.
Lyon answered with two runs in its second at-bat, including an RBI single by Emma Brasher. However, the Lady Lyons would go scoreless over the next four frames while Trigg County continued to churn out runs.
Rylee Hendricks doubled in a run in the fourth, and Veyda Grinols singled to right field to push another across for a 6-3 lead in the fifth.
Back-to-back RBI singles by Kady Fuller and Lily Eagleson stretched the Lady Wildcat advantage to five runs in the sixth, and MaKenna Hendricks capped her big night at the plate with a run-scoring single in the seventh to make it 10-3.
After a pair of one-out singles in the bottom of the seventh, Courtney Collins smacked a single to bring in two runs and give the Lady Lyons some life. Perry followed with a sacrifice fly to trim the margin to four, but a ground out ended the game.
Tember Oliver went the distance in the circle for Trigg, earning her 12th win of the season after allowing four earned runs on eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts. MaKenna Hendricks, Kiley Slone, Madilynn Smith, Livia Breckel, and Grinols finished with two hits for the Lady Wildcats.
Brasher and Lauren Davis each had two hits for Lyon, Collins drove in three runs, and Perry added two RBI. Destiny Cayce took the loss, surrendering six earned runs on 14 hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts over seven frames.
Trigg County improved to 13-11 and will travel to the Greenwood Border Battle on Friday to face Warren East.
