The Warren East Lady Raiders used a strong finish to get past the Trigg County Lady Wildcats Friday night in the Greenwood ‘Border Battle’ in Bowling Green. The Lady Raiders scored the final four runs of the game to take a 7-5 win and end Trigg County’s two-game winning streak.
The Lady Raiders took advantage of a Trigg County error in the bottom of the first to score three runs and take the early 3-0 lead.
Trigg County looked to grab the momentum right back in the top of the second inning. MaKenna Hendricks cleared the bases with a 3-run double and then scored on another double from Tember Oliver as part of a five-run inning that gave the Lady Wildcats a 5-3 lead.
Another Trigg error, one of three in the game, allowed Warren East to get one of the runs back and cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom half of the inning. A leadoff triple and then a sac fly in the bottom of the third evened things up at 5-5.
The score would stay tied until the bottom of the 6th when the third Trigg County error of the night set the stage for the Lady Raiders to score a pair of runs and take the lead for good at 7-5.
MaKenna Hendricks led the Trigg offense, going 3-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Tember Oliver was also 3-4. She had a double and an RBI. Madilynn Smith added a pair of hits for the Lady Wildcats.
Tember Oliver was charged with the loss in the circle. She gave up seven runs, but due to the three errors, only two of those runs were earned. She struck out three and walked one.
The loss drops Trigg County to 13-12 for the season. The Lady Wildcats are set to be back in action Monday evening on the road at Webster County.
