Caldwell Holds Off Calloway 4-3 to Improve to 19-6

Caldwell County built a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 triumph Friday in baseball action at Calloway County.

The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning and another in the third while improving to 19-6 on the season.

Westin King singled home the first run of the game, then Cole Slone knocked in two more with a single to put Caldwell up 3-0.

The Tigers added another tally in the third when Ari Wells singled and Collin Whittington doubled, then a balk brought in the run to make it 4-0.

Calloway cut the gap in half in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run single by Kameron Starks with two outs.

Starks singled home another run in the fifth as the Lakers crept within 4-3.

Calloway (8-13) then threatened in the seventh, putting two on with one out. But a double play ended the game, giving Caldwell the one-run triumph.

Wells (5-2) was the winning pitcher for the Tigers. He went the first four innings, surrendering three earned runs on six base hits. He struck out three and walked two.

Mitchell Phelps pitched two scoreless inning before Channing Puckett tossed the seventh to pick up the save.

Collin Whittington went 3-for-3 at the plate for Caldwell while Slone finished 2-for-3.

Starks and Cole Lockhart were each 3-for-4 for Calloway.

The Tigers have won three straight and six of their last eight games.

Caldwell will host Hopkinsville (16-4) on Monday.
