Brady Hinton and Tripp Wadlington each homered to power the Logan County High School baseball team past Todd County Central on Monday in Elkton, setting the tone for the teams’ two-day, two-game series. The Rebels and Cougars will play again at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Russellville.

During the series opener, after Todd Central jumped ahead 1-0 on a first-inning wild pitch, Logan County tied the game in the top of the second on Wadlington’s solo homer — his first of the season.

Then, in the third inning, after a Davin Yates walk, Hinton blasted his third HR of the year to give LCHS a 3-1 lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way. Hinton finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs, helping the Cougars win for the 10th time in their past 13 games overall.

It wasn’t just the powerful offense that delivered for Logan. Senior Chance Sweeney (5-2) struck out a dozen Rebels, walked just one and scattered eight hits in the complete-game victory. Devin Schutt had two of the four TCCHS doubles, including a lead-off 2B in the bottom of the seventh, but Sweeney proceeded to strike out the next three batters he faced to end the game.

Schutt finished 3-for-4, increasing his batting average to .357 in 2024. Zack Robinson also upped his average, north of .400, going 2-for-3 with a double. George Cumbee had the other in a 1-for-3 outing at the plate.

Conner Wheeler (2-3) struck out five but couldn’t overcome some control issues in his six-inning start. He walked seven and allowed six hits. After Robinson’s RBI single pulled Todd County Central within 3-2 in the third, the Cougars got a Dayman McLean RBI single and Kade Wall bases-loaded walk off Wheeler to take a 5-2 advantage into the bottom half of the sixth.

Schutt pitched the final inning in relief for the Rebels. He allowed an RBI double to Harper Butler that rounded out the scoring in the top of the seventh. Wall finished with a game-high three walks for Logan County (14-13) and went 1-for-1 with the RBI. Five different Cougars drove in runs in the win.

Todd County Central (7-13) will try for revenge against its district rival Tuesday. Since 2010, Logan County is 36-2 against the Rebels. The two Todd victories during that time period were in May 2023 and March 2010.
