One night after striking out 12 batters and stifling Todd County Central during a complete-game win on the mound, Logan County senior Chance Sweeney used an equally massive performance at the plate to lead his baseball squad to a 10-0 win Tuesday over those same Rebels.

Sweeney broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the first inning, racked up multiple run-scoring doubles a little later on, and ultimately finished 3-for-4 with four RBI to help the Cougars finish the two-day sweep of district foe Todd Central in Russellville.

Dayman McLean (3-4) did allow seven Rebel hits in his third pitching win of the season, but TCCHS struggled to find clutch contact or a lucky bounce with runners on base. Lead-off hitter Devin Schutt went 3-for-3 atopo the order to account for nearly half of his team’s seven singles.

Despite having at least one base runner in every inning, the Rebels hit into a pair of momentum-crushing double plays. Schutt, Grady Reding and Zack Robinson each recorded stolen bases in defeat.

For Todd County Central, Robinson (3-6) took the loss on the hill. He walked four, gave up 13 hits and allowed nine earned runs during his 5 1/3 innings. After Sweeney homered off Robinson in the bottom of the first, Robinson only allowed one other run through three innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, however, Logan County made the Rebels pay with a pair of two-runs, coming off back-to-back RBI doubles from Sweeney and Samuel Hayes to put the Cougars ahead 5-0. Sweeney made it 9-0 with a two-run double in the fifth and McLean ended the contest a little early with a sacrifice fly in the sixth that triggered the mercy rule.

Logan County (15-13) had six extra-base hits in the win, five of which were doubles, as they continued to maintain control of the all-time series against Todd Central. The Cougars are scheduled to host Christian County on May 6 and travel to University Heights Academy on May 13.

For the Rebels (7-14), they’ll look to end their current three-game slide during a May 3 matchup at Butler County. It will be Todd County Central’s second of five straight road games. TCCHS returns home May 9 to take on Dawson Springs.
