Just under a week after tossing a no-hitter against Calloway County, Lyon County’s Lilly Perry was at it again in the circle on Thursday with a two-hit complete-game shutout of visiting Marshall County.  Perry made a pair of runs stand up to help the Lady Lyons improve to 11-12 and avenge last season’s 16-0 loss to the Lady Marshals.

Brenna Breitrick led off the Lyon County half of the second with a single, and Emma Brasher got started on a three-hit night with a single to put runners on first and second with no outs.  After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners, Piper Cotham dropped a bunt down the first-base line to bring in the game’s first run.

The Lady Marshals put runners in scoring position in each of the first four frames, but Perry worked her way out of trouble to keep them off the scoreboard.  With two on and two out for the Lady Lyons in the bottom of the fifth, Jenna Coursey delivered a two-out RBI single to double the advantage.

Perry issued a walk to start the top of the seventh, but coaxed three straight ground outs to close out Lyon County’s fifth shutout of the season.

Perry walked three and struck out five to earn her eighth win of the year.  Brasher and Lauren Davis accounted for five of the Lady Lyons’ seven hits, with Breitrick and Coursey adding singles.

Gracelyn Darnall took the loss for Marshall County, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts over five innings.

Marshall dropped its third game in the last four to slip to 18-10.  The Lady Marshalls had won the previous two meetings with Lyon County by a combined score of 26-3.

Up next for the Lady Lyons is a weekend trip to the Owensboro Catholic Classic, beginning with a matchup with LaRue County on Friday night.
