Jordan Obi said late in Penn’s season that she was not sure if she wanted to play another season of college basketball knowing she would have to transfer as a graduate student if she wanted to play.

Even though her freshman year at Penn was cancelled by COVID, the Ivy League school does not allow a fifth year and the veteran guard told “Penn Today” about whether she wanted to play another year or “just continue with my life.”

Thursday it became known she wants to keep playing and is transferring to Kentucky to play for new coach Kenny Brooks.

The 6-1 guard gives Brooks a veteran piece for his first UK team. She played 83 games at Penn and averaged 13.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 blocks and 0.9 steals per game.

“I’m very excited about the addition of Jordan to our BBN family,” Brooks said in a release from UK. “Her experience and basketball ability will be valuable to our team in many ways. She’s a versatile player and will offer leadership from the start.”

She had 1,142 points, 88 3-pointers, 631 rebounds, 165 assists, 85 blocks and 72 steals in her three-year career and became only the 25th player at Penn to reach the 1,000-point mark — something she did in only 74 games.

Obi had her best season as a senior and earned first team all conference honors as well making the Ivy League academic team.  She averaged 14.7 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game and also had 65 assists and a team-high 38 blocks.

The new UK player hit 34 3-pointers last season and shot 34 percent from 3 and 82.7 percent at the foul line. She had six double-doubles and scored in double figures in 22 of 28 games.

  1. Great going to one site and getting caught up on all UK sports, especially insights to the new recruits in men and women’s basketball and keeping track of the great season our mens baseball team is having
