Trigg County’s Avery Ethridge qualified for her second KHSAA State Bass Fishing State Tournament in three years on Friday. However, the latest was a history-maker.
The Trigg County senior teamed with fellow senior Landi Rogers to finish third in the female division of the Region 1 Tournament on Lake Barkley. It’s the second year the KHSAA has offered an all-female division and the first time Trigg County fielded a team.
Ethridge and Rogers caught two fish weighing five pounds and five ounces. The winning team from Franklin-Simpson totaled seven points and eight ounces.
For most of the day, it looked like Trigg’s team would be shut out on the scale. Morning rain didn’t help and Ethridge said they fished in shallow water to no avail. A switch to deeper water paid off six hours in as both fish were caught in 10-15 minutes.

Ethridge fished with Aidan Moore in the co-ed division in 2022 and came in 24th place. Her brother Anthony also fished in two state tournaments with an eighth-place finish in 2018.
Ethridge and Rogers will be the first all-female team to represent Trigg County at the state tournament next weekend on Kentucky Lake.
