ADs Announce 2nd Region Athletes and Coach of the Year

Honors continue to come in for the 2024 state champion Lyon County Lyons. The 2nd Region Athletic Directors Association has announced the 2023-24 Student Athlete and Coach of the Year. The selections were announced during their recent association meeting.

The Student Athlete of the Year is chosen from the senior class of athletes in the 2nd Region. Each Student Athlete of the Year receives a one time scholarship of
$250. The Female Student Athlete of the Year will be honored in between the semifinals of the 2nd Region Softball Tournament and the Male Student Athlete of the Year, and the Coach of the Year, will be honored during the semifinals of the 2nd Region Baseball Tournament.

The Male Student Athlete of the Year is Lyon County’s Travis Perry. Travis was the leading scorer on the Lyon County team that won the KHSAA Sweet 16. He is the all time KHSAA leader in scoring, 3-pointers made, free throws made, and field goals made. Travis is also Top 3 in the KHSAA record books for assists and steals. Travis has signed to play basketball for the University of Kentucky. He is the son of Ryan and Jami Perry.

The Coach of the Year is Lyon County Boys’ Basketball Coach Ryan Perry. Coach
Perry has led the Lyons to 6 straight 5th District Championships, 3 straight 2nd Region Championships, and to the 2024 KHSAA Sweet 16 Championship. He became only the 5th coach to lead a 2nd Region Boys’ Basketball team to a state title.

The Female Student Athlete of the Year is Taylor Troutman, from Henderson County
High School. Taylor is a standout softball player for the Colonels. Taylor has signed to play softball for Mississippi State University. She is the career leader in home runs and RBIs. Taylor is also Top 5 in career runs, hits, and batting average for the Lady Colonels. During this season, she is batting .557 with a 1.636 OPS, 7 home runs, and 44 runs scored.
