This week’s Jersey Mike’s ‘Player of the Game’ for the week of April 29 is Hopkinsville High School’s Gavin Alston. Alston was selected based on his performance at the Area 1 track and field competition May 4 in Paducah.

Alston held off defending Class A state champion Maurice Moore of Fort Campbell to win the 400-meter dash. Alston’s school-record time of 49.47 seconds was .38 seconds ahead of Moore’s time. It also bested Keion Brown’s school record time of 49.51 set at the 2018 state meet.

Alston also notched a personal best in the 200-meter dash where his time of 22.51 seconds was good for fourth place and sixth best in school history.

The Jersey Mike’s ‘Player of the Game’ is selected each week from one of the five schools in Christian County (Christian County, Hopkinsville, University Heights, Christian County, and Fort Campbell) based on their performance in a big game or event for their team that week.
