After losing in the championship game of the 2024 All A Classic state softball tournament, the Hancock County Lady Hornets have now won four in a row. The Lady Hornets broke open a close game with the Lyon County Lady Lyons by scoring six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning on their way to a 10-2 win Friday night in the Team Lauren Cancer Awareness Tournament in Owensboro.
The Lady Lyons trailed just 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th when things got away from them.
Hancock County strung together six hits and a walk, all with two outs, to score the six runs, as the Lady Lyons found themselves in one of those innings that you just can’t seem to get out of once it gets started.
Hancock County scored two in the first and two in the second to take an early 4-0 lead in the game.
The Lady Lyons fought back in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs off of Hancock County errors to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
For Lyon County, Lauren Davis had another big game at the plate, going 3-4 with a run scored. Courtney Collins went 2-4 with a run scored.
For the night, Hancock County outhit Lyon County 12 to 7. The Lady Lyons were also charged with three errors.
With the loss, the Lady Lyons drop to 12-15 on the year.
