It wasn’t the day they were hoping for but regardless of their final weight, Avery Ethridge and Landi Rogers etched their names into the Trigg County High School fishing record book on Saturday.
The duo finished in fourth place at the Operation Unite/KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournament on Kentucky Lake — the first Trigg girls’ team to compete and win hardware.
After catching four fish on Friday with a weight of 8 pounds, 10 ounces which put them in second place, the tandem struggled on Saturday, catching one fish late in the day that checked in at 2 pounds, 4 ounces.
Their two-day total of 10 pounds, 14 ounces was good for a fourth-place finish.
Hailey Anderson and Brooklyn Martin of South Laurel were the only girls’ team to catch the five-bass limit, doing so both days and winning with 25 pounds, 3 ounces. They finished in third place at last year’s state tournament with 12 pounds, 13 ounces.
