Caldwell County came up with the last big base hit in a back-and-forth contest against Carlisle County on Saturday.
Collin Whittington singled into left field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in the winning run as the Tigers walked off an 8-7 victory over the Comets at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
It was Caldwell’s seventh straight win and improved the team’s record to 23-6 heading into the final week of the regular season.
Carlisle (21-10) grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning before a four-run third helped Caldwell go in front 5-3.
But the Comets countered with a four-spot of their own in the top of the fourth to go back up 7-5.
Luke Parker knocked in a run with an infield single in the bottom of the fifth to get Caldwell within 7-6.

Drew Stevens had a two-out RBI single to left in the sixth inning to knot the game at 7-7.
That set the stage for Caldwell to win it in the seventh.
Parker beat out another infield single with one out to start things. He went to second base when a pickoff attempt at first got away.
Ari Wells was then intentionally walked to put runners at first and second.
Whittington was the next batter, and singled cleanly into left field. Parker came around to score the winning run and give Caldwell its second one-run triumph in the last two days.
Scott Cortner was the winning pitcher for Caldwell after tossing the last 2.2 innings in relief of Wells, the starter.

Cortner (3-1) blanked Carlisle on one base hit while striking out two and walking one.
Cole Slone was 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs for the Tigers. Parker was also 3-for-4 and had one RBI. Wells was 2-for-2 at the plate while David Ginn doubled.
The Tigers will go on the road on Monday for a 7th District makeup date at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
