Singer J.D. Shelburne felt right at home doing a private show for residents and staff at Harrodsburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, which is part of Signature HealthCare Community, Wednesday morning. He sang a variety of songs, including some of his own, during his 60-minute performance and had a good time interacting with folks before and after his show.

“My cousin worked for Signature Healthcare in Taylorsville. That was one of the first gigs I ever played when my music career started in 2005,” said Shelburne. “I always wanted to start playing and once I did, I never stopped.

“I love doing something like this whenever I can. They’re just always a great crowd when you do something like this. After all the 3,000 or so shows I’ve done, it’s still humbling anytime I can sit down and play some songs for folks that maybe don’t get to hear music as much.”

“It’s always a blessing to come back to this kind of thing and be able to sign and entertain these folks. I really enjoyed myself and it was a great place to play.”

The show was originally scheduled to be outside but the rainy weather forecast moved the show inside but no one complained.

Physical therapist Tim Biggs helped arrange for Shelburne to perform in Harrodsburg — he will be back June 14 to perform at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Harrisburg for the city’s 250th anniversary celebration.

While Biggs is a huge Shelburne fan, director of nursing Maureen Curtsinger and her daughter are even bigger fans. She shared with Shelburne how many shows they had attended and how disappointed her daughter was she could not attend and miss school.

Administrators Jessica Totah, Jetta Barker, and Teresa Griffith also helped assure residents had the best possible experience.

“It’s just fun seeing the folks smile and enjoy themselves,” Shelburne said. “I wish I could do more of these events. Signature has always been great to work with and have done several shows online for their residents. It’s a very small sacrifice on my part to do something that can make these folks have a good day.”
