Treston Kay’s athletic versatility is on display for a pair of Hopkinsville High teams throughout the year.

The junior plays on both sides of the football for the Tigers in the fall and competes in multiple events on the track and field team.

Treston notched a pair of personal bests at the region track meet last week in Paducah and will compete in two events at next week’s Class 2A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington.

His leap of 41 feet, 1.25 inches was his second jump of over 40 feet this season.

He also equaled his personal best time in the 100-meter dash of 11.73 seconds.

Treston was also a member of Hopkinsville’s 800-meter relay team that won the region title and will take the third-fastest time in the state into the Class 2A state meet. Kay teamed with Ian Rosario, Keyshun Teal, and James Bradley to run the fourth fastest time in school history and less than a second off the school record set in 2019.

Once the track and field season ends in Lexington, Treston will turn his attention to the gridiron where he had a breakthrough junior season in the fall. He led the Tigers in rushing yards and scored three times — playing both running back and quarterback. Treston was also the team’s leading receiver with 36 catches for 394 yards and five touchdowns.

It was good for a selection to the All-Western Kentucky Conference Team.

Treston is looking forward to playing for Dustin Lopez, elevated from Hoptown defensive coordinator to head coach in 2024. He’s also looking forward to elevating his game and seeing the results.

In this YSE interview done before the region track and field meet, Treston discussed both sports and what he felt his strong events were on the track.
