
The Trigg County boys’ track and field team had a relay team automatically qualify for the state meet following their second-place finish in the 3200-meter run at the Class 2A Region 1 Meet Saturday in Paducah.
Several others will play a wait-and-see game to see if they gain at large bids based on their time or distance on Saturday. First and second-place finishers at the region automatically qualify for the state meet on June 1 in Lexington.
As a team, Trigg County scored 34 points to finish behind fifth place Webster County (62) and ahead of seventh place Logan County (27.5).
RUNNING
Brody Renfroe was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:09.71.
Carter Shepherd was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.28 seconds and was seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.93 seconds.
Braxton Hargrove was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.21 seconds.
Cameron Sanders was ninth in the 200-meter dash in 24.97 seconds.
Dekon Perry was ninth in the 400-meter dash in 59.84 seconds and 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:23.56.
Grant Gallogly was eighth in the 3200-meter run in 12:55.96 and was ninth in the 1600-meter run in 6:02.01.
RELAYS
The 3200-meter relay team of Braxton Hargrove, Dekon Perry, Matthew Reeves, and Brody Renfroe finished in second place to earn a state berth in 8:47.08 – less than four seconds out of first place.
The 800-meter relay team of Braxton Hargrove, Matthew Reeves, Carter Shepherd, and Cameron Sanders came in third in 1:38.51.
The 1600-meter relay team of Braxton Hargrove, Dekon Perry, Brody Renfroe, and Matthew Reeves finished in seventh place in 4:02.39.
FIELD EVENTS
Matthew Reeves tied for third place in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches.
Kahmani Bush was third in the long jump at 19-06.25.
TayShaun Linton was seventh in the shot put at 33-09 and was ninth in the discus throw at 87-05.
Kell Norwood was 13th in the discus throw at 67-03 and 13th in the shot put at 26-05.
