Eli Baker homered and threw a no-hitter to lead Lyon County into the 5th District championship game as part of a 10-0 win over Trigg County on Monday in Smithland.
Baker’s two-run shot was part of a four-run second inning for the Lyons who rapped out 10 hits.
John Bingham doubled in the third inning and came around to score for a 5-0 advantage. He finished the game 2 for 3 with three runs scored.
Austin Spears doubled in a run in the fifth inning to continue the Lyon offensive attack and push the lead to 7-0.
The Lyons ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when a passed ball allowed one run to score. Korben Lucas launched a shot that hit the top of the fence in right-centerfield and plated the final two runs for the mercy rule win.
Lucas finished with two doubles and two RBI, and Turner Hurst added two singles.
Baker improved to 6-2 and lowered his season ERA to 1.27. He struck out 11 and allowed only one walk. He retired the first 11 batters of the game and didn’t allow a Trigg runner to get into scoring position.
Trigg County finished the season getting shut out in three of its final four games and ended with a record of 9-15, missing the region tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
Lyon County improved to 21-6 and will play Crittenden County Tuesday for a shot at its fifth straight district title. Both the Lyons and Rockets move into next week’s region tournament at Hopkinsville High School. They will be joined by Union County, Henderson County, Caldwell County, Madisonville-North Hopkins, University Heights Academy, and Hopkinsville.
