The Christian County softball team continued its stranglehold on the 8th District on Tuesday, cruising to a 15-0 victory over University Heights Academy to capture the trophy for the 20th straight season.
The Lady Colonels outscored their two tournament opponents 31-0 to finish 5-0 against district competition and improve to 21-15-1. UHA lost its 13th in a row to Christian County to slip to 5-10 ahead of next week’s 2nd Region tournament.
The Lady Blazers opened the game with back-to-back singles, but Gracie Harned struck out a pair to end the threat and didn’t allow another hit the rest of the way.
RBI singles by Haley Petterson and Avery Adcock put the Lady Colonels up 7-0 with the help of a pair of UHA errors, and Jayda Turner capped a nine-run first inning with a two-run double.
Christian County tacked on a run in the bottom of the 2nd on Katie Smith’s RBI single, and Jazzy Tejada cleared the center field fence with a two-run home run to stretch the lead to 13-0. Jada Miller’s single and a pair of walks loaded the bases in the 4th ahead of Chloe Almy’s two-run single to end the game.
Seven Lady Colonels had a hit each. Almy finished with four RBI, followed by Tejada with three, and Adcock, Turner, and Smith with two runs driven in.
Harned earned her 12th win of the season in the circle, walking three and striking out nine over four innings.
Katherine Wood took the loss for the Lady Blazers, allowing 15 runs, eight earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and ten walks.
Christian County will be looking for its first region title since 2018 while the Lady Blazers will be making their first appearance in the tournament in three seasons.
