
The defending 2nd Region softball champions did what a champion is supposed to do in the opening round of a regional tournament when they are a heavy favorite. The Lady Colonels took care of business.
Henderson County scored 11 times in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to a 17-0 three inning win over the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers in the opening game of the 2024 2nd Region softball tournament Memorial Day afternoon at Christian County High School.
The Lady Colonels sent 16 batters to the plate in the opening inning, scoring 10 runs before they had made their first out of the day.
Henderson took advantage of three walks, a hit batter, and two UHA errors in the inning. The Lady Colonels added 7 hits, highlighted by a solo home run from Hallie McCracken.
Henderson County picked up where they left off in the first inning as the bottom of the second got underway. The first six batters for Henderson all reached base safely as the Lady Colonels erupted for another big inning, extending the lead to 17-0.
The only thing keeping sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk from a perfect three-inning game was a first-inning walk where she lost Chayse Gilliland after being up 0-2. Gilliland was the only Lady Blazer to reach base in the game.
Seven different Henderson players had a hit in the game led by Alyse Rollings, who went 2-2 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored, and Ayden Bennett, who finished 2-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
UHA finishes the season at 5-11, while Henderson County improves to 30-5 and advances to Tuesday night’s first regional semifinal game at 5:30.
