The stage is now set for an epic semifinal showdown in the semifinals of the 2nd Region softball tournament.
Livingston Central got a big performance in the circle and generated enough offense at the plate to take a 5-2 win over the Caldwell County Lady Tigers in Monday’s quarterfinal round at Christian County High School.
The tourney win was the first for the All A Classic state champions since 2014.
Livingston Central scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, using a walk, a hit batter, and a single to load the bases. The Lady Cardinals scored a run when Victoria Joiner grounded into a fielder’s choice. Addison Tramble drove in the second run with a single to center.
The Lady Cardinals added a run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Neveah Jennings. Joiner then led off the bottom of the sixth by giving one a ride over the left field fence to make it 4-0 and kicking off a two-run rally that saw the inning end with the Lady Cardinals up 5-0. For Joiner, it was her sixth homer of the season.
Tramble was dominant in the circle for the Lady Cardinals. The seventh-grader gave up two runs, both unearned in the top of the seventh. She struck out 14 and walked none.
Hadley Hargrove, Emersyn Ramage, and Eden Campanella each had two hits to lead the Lady Cardinals. Joiner was 1-3 with two RBI.
Adley Lewis had two of Caldwell County’s three hits in the game. Brylee Butts led off the game with a bunt single for the other hit.
Alexis Wood went the distance for the Lady Tigers (19-17) in the circle, giving up five runs, four earned on 10 hits. She struck out five and walked two.
Livingston Central (32-4), a team with no seniors on its roster, moves into Tuesday’s first semifinal game against three-time defending champion Henderson County. The Lady Colonels (30-5) opened the day with a 17-0 win over University Heights Academy. The two teams met earlier this season with Livingston Central taking a 3-1 win.
