Union County Slips Past Crittenden Into Region Semifinals

Union County scored all the runs they needed in the fourth inning to beat Crittenden County 3-2 and snap a four-game losing streak in the first round of the region baseball tournament.

Landon Jones followed a run-scoring error with a two-run double to left field. The sophomore ended the game with three of Union County’s five hits.

Crittenden County loaded the bases in the fifth inning with one out. Eighth-grader Hudson Stokes scored the Rockets’ first run with a sacrifice fly. Quinn Summers followed with a run-scoring single to cut the Union lead to 3-2.

The Rockets put runners at first and second with one out in the seventh inning but Waylon Wheatley got two ground outs to end the game and earn the save.

Logan Hall went six innings for the Braves, allowing six hits and no earned runs while striking out nine.

Jeremiah Foster went the distance for Crittenden County, allowing one earned run and striking out two.

Summers and Kaiden Travis each had two hits for the Rockets (18-15).

Union County (13-23) will play Hopkinsville in Tuesday’s semifinal round.
