Henderson County is taking all of the fun out of the 2nd Region softball tournament — at least for all of the other teams.
The Lady Colonels won their fourth-straight regional championship on Wednesday, blanking Union County 10-0 in five innings at Christian County High School.
Over the last two years, Henderson has not allowed a run in six regional tourney games — outscoring opponents 79-0.
In its last eight games at the 2nd Region tournament, Henderson has allowed just one run — to Christian County in the 2022 championship game — with seven shutouts.
Henderson hurler Anna Kemp, who will play collegiately at the University of Missouri, did not allow a hit in the title tilt on Wednesday. She struck out 12 and walked just one for the Lady Colonels, who will carry a 32-5 record to the KHSAA State Tournament in Lexington.
Henderson backed Kemp with three long balls in the finale. Maggie Grogan, Hallie McCracken and Mackenzie Burczyk all left the park for the Lady Colonels, who scored multiple runs in each of their four at-bats — three in the first, two in the second, two more in the third and three in the fourth.
Grogan also tripled as part of a 2-for-3 performance. She had two runs batted in.
McCracken was 2-for-3 while Ayden Bennett was 2-for-2.
Union, a surprise entrant in the 2nd Region championship game, finished its season 23-18.
The game was a rematch of the 6th District final last week, which Henderson won 11-0.
