
Fort Campbell senior Maurice Moore came to Thursday’s Clark’s Pump N Shop Class 1A State Track and Field Meet looking to defend his 400-meter state title and make three more trips to the medal podium.
At the end of the day, Moore left with four medals, two relay state titles, and a school record.
The 800-meter relay team of McKenzie Andrews, Mateo Cerritos Gatto, and Moore, set a school record with a winning time of 1:29.61. That group has run the four fastest times in the event in program history.
The 1600-meter relay team of Andrews, Cerritos Gatto, Moore, and Sam Atoubi rounded out the day with a flawless run in 3:25.37 to take first place by nearly three seconds. Their time was the second-fastest in school history and just missed a 40-year-old school record by .32 seconds.
Moore actually ran a faster time in this year’s 400-meter dash looking to repeat as state champion. While he ran a 49.14 – the second fastest in school history – he was unable to chase down Danville Christian’s Emmanuel Dut who crossed the tape in 48.66 seconds.
Moore’s fourth podium appearance was in the 100-meter dash where he took seventh place.
Other podium trips by the Falcons were by Mateo Cerritos Gatto, fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.62 seconds; Leaf Dewitt, seventh in the high jump at 6-0, and JC Perryman, eighth in the long jump at 20-4.25.
Sam Atoubi was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 41.48 seconds.
Tyreek Anthony was 12th in the high jump at 5-10
Eric Marr was 14th in the pole vault with a personal best height of 9-6.
McKenzie Andrews was 14th in the 400-meter dash in 53.54 seconds.
Keshawn Dixon was 21st in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.82 seconds.
Kaden Herrera was 21st in the 100-meter dash in 11.71 seconds.
The 3200-meter relay team of Ryker Kramer, Andrew Bennett, Andy Cintron, and Jayden Perry was 10th in 8:56.03.
The 400-meter relay team of Mateo Cerritos Gatto, Kaden Herrera, McKenzie Andrews, and JC Perryman was 24th in 47.99 seconds.
Fort Campell brought home a sixth-place team finish with 38 points, one point behind fifth-place St. Henry and 11 points more than seventh-place Bethlehem.
