
Griffin McCoy made three trips to the medal podium at Thursday’s Clark’s Pump N Shop Class 1A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington – one solo and two with relay teams.
McCoy was eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.15 seconds and just missed a medal in the 200 meters in 23.00 seconds – just missing a personal best time by .06 seconds.
McCoy teamed with Harlow Hampton, Ryan Luckey, and Clayton Lester to finish as state runner-up in the 400-meter relay. Beechwood, led by 100 and 200-meter state champion Luke Erdman on the anchor leg, edged the Blazers by .42 seconds. UHA missed the school record set at the region meet by .09 seconds.
The same group finished in seventh place in the 1600-meter relay. Their time of 3:31.85 was a season-best and third fastest in school history.
Lester brought home a 12th-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 52.96 seconds.
UHA scored 11 points to finish tied for 20th place in the team standings.
